CASA programs in Carson City, Clark, Douglas, Elko, Washoe, and White Pine Counties are seeking volunteers.
What do Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers do?
CASA volunteers are assigned to a child abuse or neglect case by a judge. They are trained to protect and promote the best interests of the child throughout the judicial process. CASA volunteers develop relationships with the children, gather invaluable information from parents, relatives, foster parents, teachers, social workers, health providers, and others who know the child, and interview everyone involved. They attend court on the child’s behalf, submitting written and oral reports, recommending what they believe is best for the child.
CASA volunteers are instrumental in assuring that a child or family receives services which the court has ordered -- such as counseling, special education, and so on. Throughout the case, a CASA volunteer monitors the child’s situation to make sure he or she remains safe. Often a CASA volunteer is the only person who is assigned to the child from the beginning of the case to permanency.
CASA volunteers are people from all walks of life, with diverse professional, educational, and ethnic backgrounds, who are committed to doing what is best for a child. Our volunteers are trained in the family court process, child abuse and neglect, family dynamics, and children’s physical and emotional needs.
There are many more abused and neglected children in Nevada than we have CASA volunteers for.
Help us turn our dream of a CASA volunteer for every child into a reality. Become a CASA volunteer and be rewarded with some of the most powerful and fulfilling experiences in your life.
